In this course, we will guide you through some ideas and exercises that are based on the evidence-based approach called Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). The course is primarily aimed at you, as a parent, however some activities are designed for your child, and some are for you to do jointly with your child.

There are 7 video sessions, along with additional resources such as MP3 audios and downloadable/printable handouts to support you on your journey of compassionate parenting.

About Charlie & Jo

Charlie

Dr Charlie Heriot-Maitland is a Clinical Psychologist, researcher, trainer, and co-founder/director of Balanced Minds, an organisation specialising in CFT and self-compassion.

For the first 13 years of his career, Charlie provided psychological therapies in the NHS (UK), and he now runs a private therapy practice in Edinburgh and London (and online) specialising in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) – see www.balancedminds.com. Charlie continues to provide supervision, training, and consultancy in the NHS, as well as other organisations across multiple sectors, including healthcare, social care, education, and charities. As well as training professionals in CFT, Charlie has also developed compassion-focused self-help resources, including a Compassionate Mind Training 8-week course for the general public, and a self-help book called Relating to Voices using Compassion Focused Therapy (Routledge, 2022).

Jo

Dr Jo Taylor is a Child and Educational Psychologist, advisor to the Queens Commonwealth Trust and Federation for Education Development.

A large part of Jo’s work involves supporting children and families through difficult times and he is fascinated by the potential of compassion-focussed approaches for helping navigate this journey.. He is currently completing an international Churchill Fellowship, researching how compassion can support people in caregiving roles.
